François Pierre Rousseau de Villiers is a composer of Classical Music and

an Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health of MEDUNSA in Pretoria. 

 

He is now retired and lives in Plettenberg Bay. He practises part-time as a Paediatric Endocrinologist at the Life Knysna Private Hospital. He is the immediate past president of PAEDS-SA (the Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology and Diabetes Society of South Africa); and also the immediate past Vice-President of ASPAE (the African Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology).

He was Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at MEDUNSA from 1994 until 2015, and he had been Deputy Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Medicine from 1997 to 2001 and Deputy Dean (Academic Matters) from 2005 to 2007 (when Deputy Deanships were abolished).  During 2010 he was Director of the School of Medicine of the merged institution:  University of Limpopo.

 

His previous positions include Consultant and later Senior Consultant in Paediatrics at the Johannesburg Hospital and the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) (1987-1994), Registrar in Paediatrics at Baragwanath Hospital (1983-1986) and Medical Officer and later Senior Medical Officer at George Stegmann Hospital in Saulspoort (Moruleng) (1978-1982).  His first attachment was to Edendale Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, as Intern and later Medical Officer (1974-1977).
